Speech therapy emphasizes the ability to express one's self and to understand others. We treat patients of all ages who have difficulties with voice, articulation, stuttering, and language. Speech therapists also evaluate and treat swallowing difficulties caused by stroke, head injury, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
The speech-language pathologists at Owatonna Hospital evaluate and treat all types of speech, language and related disorders. They hold a master’s degree, are certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and licensed by the State of Minnesota.

Commonly Asked Questions Do I need a physician's orders to see a speech therapist or for voice treatment?
Medicare and some insurance plans may require a referral. Prior to beginning voice
therapy, you should consult a physician to rule out medical problems or to start
medical treatment that may be required in addition to voice treatment.
What is cognitive rehabilitation?
Cognition involves ways of knowing, perceiving, remembering, imagining, conceiving,
judging and reasoning. Cognition and language are closely related in self-awareness
and expression.
Cognitive rehab involves training and re-training a person’s skills in acquiring,
retaining and using information. Such skills include perception, problem-solving,
decision-making, processing and understanding information, memory, and attention.
