Owatonna Hospital Foundation to begin telefundraiser First ever telefundraising campaign is next step for capital campaign
OWATONNA, Minn. 07/24/2008--The Owatonna Hospital Foundation will be conducting a telefundraiser over the next several weeks as part of the $3 million Expanding the Dream capital campaign for the new Owatonna Hospital. The hospital's capital campaign is currently at 92 percent of its goal with donations committed by local businesses, community leaders and foundations to fund special features of the new hospital, which were identified as important during community forums and an online survey in 2006.
One hundred percent of the donations to the telefundraising campaign will be used to help fund the remaining special features inside the new hospital, which consist of the Center for Health & Wellness and the Professional Education Center. "This is the first time Owatonna Hospital has ever held a telephone fundraising campaign," said Scott Palmer, Owatonna Hospital Foundation executive director. "The goal of the campaign is to reach out to former patients who are familiar with the hospital to raise funds for enhancements in the patient care experience."
Once the $3 million goal has been achieved, additional donations will go toward extending the healing environment to the outside of the hospital. These exterior enhancements were also based from the 2006 community forums and survey.
The first exterior project would be to enhance the 1.25 mile Outdoor Walking Path, which has been initially funded in part by Owatonna Hospital employees. Possible upgrades include exercise stations, lighting, paved walks, picnic shelters, viewing platforms, bridges, drinking fountains, flowers and natural prairie grasses.
The second exterior project would include enhancing the Healing Garden, which will be viewed from the Prairie Winds Café Solarium (hospital cafeteria). The Solarium is being fully funded by Owatonna Hospital managers and directors. The Healing Garden will be the entry point to the Outdoor Walking Path. The Healing Garden will also feature green space for outdoor functions and events that can be used by the community.
The callers will be Allina employees who will be calling past Owatonna Hospital patients. They will have no medical history or other confidential information about former patients.
The new Owatonna Hospital will be built from the ground up with the needs of patients and family members at the forefront in planning, design and architecture. The two-story, 38-bed hospital will contain more than 140,000 square feet and include private patient rooms; expanded surgery suites, Emergency Department; inpatient unit, Sleep Lab, Birth Center and Mental Health Unit; diagnostic imaging; rehabilitation services; ample parking as well as the special project feature enhancements. The new Owatonna hospital will be connected to the newly expanded Owatonna Clinic’s current 26th Street location.
Owatonna Hospital provides a full range of health care services including a birth center, emergency care, mental health, cardiac care, orthopedics, rehabilitation, medical imaging and surgery.
