Allina's Mercy Hospital is one of Thomson Reuters' 100 Top Hospitals® for Cardiovascular Care

COON RAPIDS, Minn. 01/25/2010--Mercy Hospital was one of three Minnesota hospitals identified by Thomson Reuters's annual study of 100 U.S. hospitals that set the nation's benchmarks for inpatient cardiovascular care. This is the seventh consecutive year Mercy has been recognized with this honor.

"Recognition as one of the best cardiovascular programs in the nation reflects the dedication and excellence that our physicians and staff bring to work every day," said Tom O'Connor, president of Mercy Hospital. "It is another validation for residents in our communities that they have one of the nation's best cardiovascular hospitals right here and close to home."

Mercy Hospital, working in conjunction with Metropolitan Heart and Vascular Institute, has one of the leading cardiovascular programs in the Twin Cities' metro area, performing more than 60,000 heart procedures each year. Mercy's heart program includes:

The study -- 100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Benchmarks -- examined the performance of 971 hospitals by analyzing outcomes for patients diagnosed with heart failure and heart attacks and for those who received coronary bypass surgery or percutaneous cardiovascular interventions, such as angioplasties.

"These hospitals provide balanced high performance across cardiovascular services. This means they are providing high quality and highly efficient care at a reasonable cost in comparison to peers across the United States," said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president for performance improvement and 100 Top Hospitals programs at Thomson Reuters.
