Local athletic trainer receives state-wide award

OWATONNA, Minn. 05/25/2010-- Terry "TC" Carlyle, ATC, was recently presented the Minnesota Athletic Trainers’ Association's (MATA) Athletic Trainer Recognition Award during the 2010 MATA Annual Meeting & Symposium at Minnesota State University – Mankato on May 15. Carlyle is a certified athletic trainer at Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute – Owatonna and serves as Owatonna High School’s head athletic trainer.

TC accepts an award from Brent Millikin

Minnesota Athletic Trainers’ Association’s President-elect Brent Millikin presented TC Carlyle with the Athletic Trainer Recognition Award earlier this month. Also in attendance for the awards presentation were Brian Bunkers, MD, Owatonna Clinic CEO and Owatonna High School team physician; Linda Hoffman, manager of Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute – Owatonna; and Chelsea Schneider, former student assistant and certified athletic trainer with the Minnesota Orthopedic Sports Medicine Institute.

Randy Palmer, Mankato West athletic trainer and a 1974 Owatonna High School graduate, nominated Carlyle for the award. In the nomination, Palmer wrote, "TC has been a pioneer of sorts for athletic training in Minnesota for the development and continued success of his high school student assistant program. Over the last 20 years, TC has mentored more than 60 student assistants, many who have gone into athletic training and other health care fields. TC was one of the first athletic trainers to work in the Big Nine Conference and now all the schools have athletic training coverage, because of the example he set many years ago."

Besides working with student athletes at Owatonna High School, Carlyle also provides weekly athletic training consultations to Medford and Blooming Prairie High Schools, Wenger Corporation, Federated Insurance Company, Viracon, the Owatonna Police Department and the Steele County Sheriff’s Department. He also is a consultant for the Owatonna Fire Department, Owatonna Parks & Recreation Department and Gold Cross Ambulance. Carlyle is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, the Minnesota Athletic Trainers’ Association and registered with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.
