Allina’s Unity Hospital receives stroke center certification

FRIDLEY, Minn. 02/05/2010--Unity Hospital is now a Joint Commission-certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center. This designation honors hospitals that provide outstanding stroke care, education and care improvement.

"The majority of stroke patients come to the hospital through the Emergency Department, so the critical processes of identifying stroke and quick treatment have to begin at our front door. This certification recognizes that Unity's staff is well prepared to care for any patients that show signs and symptoms of a possible stroke," says Kate Radmer, Unity’s regulatory lead and quality consultant.

The Joint Commission's Primary Stroke Center Certification Program was developed in collaboration with the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. The Certificate of Distinction for Primary Stroke Centers recognizes centers that make exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes for stroke care.

Allina’s four metro hospitals are now certified Advanced Primary Stroke centers. In addition to Unity, Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis, United in St. Paul and Mercy in Coon Rapids have earned the designation.
