V. Simon Mittal, MD, awarded Masters of Medical Management
OWATONNA, Minn. 07/20/2009--V. Simon Mittal, MD, was awarded the Masters of Medical Management from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business in commencement ceremonies in May. Dr. Mittal is a board-certified Internist who works as a hospitalist at Owatonna Hospital as part of the staff of the Owatonna Clinic – Mayo Health System. He is also vice president of medical affairs (VPMA) for Owatonna Hospital.
This medical management program was developed in partnership with the University of Southern California and the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE), which represents physicians in medical management. ACPE and the University of Southern California designed this degree program to enable busy physicians to develop the knowledge and skills needed to lead medical concerns, ranging from solo practices to the nation's largest health care organizations.
Dr. Mittal has been a leader at the Owatonna Clinic in fulfilling an education mission. He was involved in the Mayo Health System committee that deals with education and research. He has been at the forefront in bringing to Owatonna the highest level of accreditation to continuing medical education provided by the Owatonna Clinic and the Owatonna Hospital.
Dr. Mittal is also a member of the American College of Physicians, recipient of the AMA Physician Recognition Award, winner of the MacMillan Scholarship for Leadership Development in 2007 and the winner of the Surgeon General Award in 2001. He has served in many capacities in the last nine years in Owatonna as medical director of Hospice Care, chair of the Internal Medicine Department, chair of Clinical Operations, and now currently serves as the VPMA, overseeing quality, and medical care processes for the Owatonna Hospital.
