Angel pins and cards now on sale at Unity
FRIDLEY, Minn. 11/06/2007-- Unity employee Sally Harlow created the winning angel design for a pin that is being sold by Mercy and Unity hospitals to raise money for hospital equipment, projects and scholarships.
The limited edition pin and a collection of note cards feature the angelic concepts of care, hope and love. Each of 12 designs was created by a Mercy or Unity employee or their family.
Harlow, who is a nurse and an artist, is working on a master’s degree in human development and has been studying the topic of art and healing. She designed the pin while her mother was recovering from heart valve replacement surgery.
"I did the drawing with my mother’s heart and the heart’s healing properties in mind," said Harlow. "I am learning that healing can be spiritual or physical or both.
"The heart is a good example of a physical organ with spiritual properties. The heart shaped angel represents spiritual and physical healing."
The pin and note cards are on sale in the gift shops of both hospitals. Note cards are $12 for a pack of 12, and the pin is $15.
"We are hoping that this fundraiser will benefit the auxiliaries who will return the profits to both hospitals for wish lists and gift giving," says Kari Oberlander, Unity’s director of Auxiliary and Volunteers.
Unity Hospital is a non-profit hospital that serves the northwestern Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The hospital is part of Allina Hospitals & Clinics.
