Owatonna Hospital raises more than $28,000 for Community Giving CampaignOWATONNA, Minn. 01/09/2007--The staff at Owatonna Hospital, part of Allina Hospitals & Clinics, are doing more these days than providing care to their patients. They are also committed to ensuring the health of this community through supporting their 2006 Community Giving Campaign, which raised more than $28,000 for the United Way of Steele County and the Owatonna Hospital Foundation. This is up 37 percent from the 2005 campaign and the second consecutive year that total pledges and participation has increased to support United Way participating organizations and the hospital's annual fundraising campaign. The combined campaign gives 22,000 employees throughout Allina the opportunity to make gifts designated to programs within Allina, as well as to any United Way or other nonprofit organization. "This year's campaign reconfirms the commitment and compassion that Owatonna Hospital's employees have for the community in which they work and live," said Dorothy Erdmann, president, Owatonna Hospital. "Our campaign results show that when employees understand the critical role that the hospital and the United Way plays in our community, they will give, and give generously to help meet the needs of those around them." One hundred percent of employee contributions to the newly established Owatonna Hospital Foundation will help support a special project for the new hospital, which is slated to open in early 2009. "Hospitals nationwide continue to receive less reimbursement from insurance companies and the government than what it costs to provide the service," said Erdmann. "This trend, coupled with the fact that our population is aging, is driving the creation of hospital foundations to support efforts to deliver exceptional care and services to patients and the community." In addition to Owatonna Hospital Foundation donations, pledges were made to the United Way, including a $6,000 one-time donation to the United Way of Steele County Drug and Alcohol Prevention Initiative. "There are so many needs in our community and the collective impact of all gifts will help support a healthier, safe community," Erdmann said. About Owatonna HospitalThe new Owatonna Hospital will be connected to the current Owatonna Clinic-Mayo Health System 26th Street location, off Interstate 35, creating a health care campus.
